Yes, from your dashboard. You keep the number until the end of the period you've already paid for and won't be charged again — cancelling early doesn't refund the unused part of that period.
Most numbers need no documents at all. A handful of countries require ID verification by local law — flagged on that country's tariff table above before you buy.
